Rules & Regulations

(As Amended and Adopted at the DPAA Board Meeting of 05/03/2007)

In accordance with Chapter III, Section 3, of the Diamond Point Airport Association Constitution= & Bylaws, the following operational rules are established for pilots of aircraft using the Diamond Point Airport.

Ground Rules

  • Parking of aircraft will be confined to established parking/tiedown areas. Owners of real property adjacent to the airport or taxiways may park on their property as might their guests.
  • Taxiing of aircraft prior to or after flight will be done on the established taxiways.
  • Aircraft shall come to a complete stop before entering or crossing a street, proceeding only after insuring that there is no conflicting traffic.
  • Vehicle traffic, other than for construction or airport maintenance, will be limited to aircraft, normal passenger cars and maximum 3/4 ton pickups.
  • Airport access on the south side is limited to the south taxiway and tie-down area. Access on the north side is limited to the north taxiway via the North taxiway gate* and the Northeast gate* at the northeast airport property line adjacent to Lot 31, Plat III of Sunshine Acres.
  • Sunshine Acres residents may cross the runway on foot or bicycle, however, they do so at their own risk. DPAA accepts no responsibility for the safety of persons crossing the runway. Handicapped persons may cross on motorized scooters. Small powered vehicles such as golf carts and motor bikes may traverse around the ends of the runway using the grass surface.
  • Property owners contemplating construction projects adjacent to airport property must sign an affidavit, prior to breaking ground, indicating full knowledge of all airport rules and regulations. These property owners shall plan construction activities by first providing heavy equipment and construction vehicle access from the street side of their property.
  • If a construction vehicle, due to its size or load, cannot move to the construction site via the established street-side access, the property owner or contractor may submit a written request for special permission from the DPAA Board to make entry via a taxiway.
  • *These access gates on the north side consist of three 30 inch posts, center post removable, with a key lock cable attached. The outer posts are located twenty feet either side of centerline so as not to conflict with transiting aircraft.
  • Keys for the North Taxiway Gate will be issued, upon request, to DPAA property owners requiring vehicle and aircraft access to and from their property or hangars via the North Taxiway and airport property. Northeast Gate access is limited to construction vehicles and will be controlled by the DPAA Board.
  • The DPAA Board will reply in writing to approve or deny such a request on a case-by-case basis. The Northeast gate is to be used for this type of entry on the north side of the airport. Prior to access, the property owner or contractor will walk the airport property with DPAA Board members to ascertain the existing condition of the surface. No construction access will be allowed during winter months or after heavy rains.
  • DPAA Board members will walk the property again with the property owner or contractor if damage is noted. It will be the property owner's responsibility to repair the surface to the original condition within 30 days. If the damage is not repaired, DPAA may have a contractor repair the surface and the property owner will be responsible for the cost.
  • In any event, NO VEHICLE, OTHER THAN AIRCRAFT, SHALL BE PERMITTED TO MOVE ACROSS ANY PORTION OF THE RUNWAY!

Flight Rules

  • Aircraft departing the runway will announce their departure on 122.9 before taking the runway.
  • A right hand traffic pattern flown 1000 ft. AGL (1260′ MSL) will be used for runway 29.
  • A standard left hand traffic pattern flown 1000 ft. AGL (1260′ MSL) will be used for runway11.
  • Arriving aircraft should announce their position and intentions on 122.9 MHz while on a 45 degree leg to downwind when using either runway.
  • Caution! In windy conditions severe downdrafts occur on the approach ends of both runways29 and 11. High, steep approaches are recommended
  • Only Regular and Associate DPAA members may grant a pilot permission to operate an aircraft to and from the airport and all aircraft operators using the Diamond Point Airport do so at their own risk.

Diamond Point Airport Procedures

Procedures Briefing

Welcome to Diamond Point! The Associate or Regular Member of the Diamond Point Airport Association in good standing that has sponsored your visit wishes you to become familiar with our airport and the particular challenges it can present. Please review the following considerations before your flight and landing.

The runway is 11/29, and is 2335′ x 24′, asphalt in good condition. All patterns are flown over the water to the north of the field; left traffic for runway 11, and right traffic for 29. The airport is situated on a bluff, at 262′ elevation, and the drop-offs at either end can generate severe up or downdrafts and turbulence. There is NO OVERRUN at either end. Runway 29 has a 200′ displaced threshold and runway 11 a 100′ one. The displaced thresholds are necessitated by a power line on the east end with Red Avoidance Lighting, and trees on the west end. Winds can be both changeable and strong, especially in the afternoons. To land comfortably you should feel confident that you can land your plane in 1000-1200'.

Our CTAF frequency is 122.9. Even when there is no traffic present, please announce your presence and intent, as someone is nearly always monitoring the frequency. We encourage you to overfly the field to familiarize yourself with the runway environment before landing. The official windsock is past midfield toward the west, on the south side. In addition, there are other windsocks visible from the eastern approach path.

Plan to land past the displaced threshold lines, with a steeper approach that keeps you above the terrain-generated disturbances. Flying a stabilized approach that puts you at 700-800′ MSL when turning final will help guarantee a proper glideslope. Also be aware of possible descent path illusion: the narrow runway sitting on a bluff may make it appear that you are too high, and that the runway is longer than it is. Maintain your descent angle while taking in the entire runway environment.

We have a large and fearless resident deer population. Overflight of the runway environment will enable a windsock check as well as a check for deer on or near the runway.

Transient parking is just east of the shed on the south side of the runway, accessed via taxiways A2 or A3 to Alpha. If you are parking as the guest of someone on their property, make sure you have instructions on how to get there. Stop before crossing any street or road. When taxiing on the east end of Alpha, be certain to stay in the center of the flat surface, as the ground falls away on the north side.

As a courtesy to our neighbors, upon departure from runway 11, delay turnout until over the water. Upon departure from runway 29, follow the drainage channel to the northwest, avoiding overflight of the homes west of the drainage.

If you have questions or difficulties, check on our frequency for someone to advise. If you are unable to land because of weather or other issues, Jefferson County International (0S9 123.00) is about five miles to the east, with significantly different weather, a large runway, and facilities.

Please be careful, considerate, and safe!

Thank you from the members of the Diamond Point Airport Association.
